The Evian Championship, The Magnificent Seven (Video)
It’s tempting to give Inbee Park the edge on winning The Evian, but I’m not going to do that.
In the two decades that The Evian has been contested, four players have won multiple times: Dame Laura Davies (1995, 1996), Helen Alfredsson (1994, 1998, 2008), Annika Sorenstam (2000, 2002), and Ai Miyazato (2009, 2011). That would seem to give Inbee Park, Suzann Pettersen and Hyo Joo Kim a slight advantage.
But Paula Creamer was a 19-year old rookie when she won in 2006, and that suggests that the 2015 Evian Champion could emerge from the ranks of young, first-time players.
And Helen Alfredsson was 43 and had been playing professional golf for 19 years when she won in 2008, suggesting that the victory this year could go to a seasoned veteran or at least a highly experienced player.
Looking to the history of the Championship and trying to identify the common thread that connects Evian Champions is rather like trying to untie the Gordian knot.
