The Masters

Winner: Rory McIlroy

There were only a select few golfers I was thinking of in this spot. Augusta is a place where experience plays a huge factor and the truly elite win. Obviously that doesn’t happen every year, but for the most part that’s the way it is.

So, that really narrowed down the field. Who are golfers that have played at Augusta enough times to warrant consideration? Who are the golfers that are still playing at a high level? And who hits it long, high, and straight?

Using those guidelines narrowed it down to three for me and they were Jason Day, Justin Rose, and Rory McIlroy.

I really wanted to take Rose just because he has such a superb track record at Augusta. He has made the cut 10 of 10 times and has finished inside the top twenty in five of those tries. I do believe Rose will eventually win a green jacket before his career is over.

  • As for Day, he has all the confidence in the world now and I believe he will win his fair share of major championships. Including at least one green jacket in his closet. He has his major already and won’t have as much pressure on him anymore. Day winning wouldn’t be a shock at all.

However, the difference for me and what set me over the edge was just envisioning the green jacket ceremony.

Wouldn’t it be would be fitting to see Spieth putting the green jacket on McIlroy? I thought it would. Sort of symbolizing the two best golfers right now and McIlroy taking back the crown in 2016.

That’s why I’m going with McIlroy. Plus, I think this and the PGA Championship will be McIlroy’s best chances of winning a major.

On a couple of different drafts I had McIlroy winning zero, but I thought better of that. I have to think McIlroy will be back in the winner’s circle in 2016 and why not at Augusta?
