No. 12: J.B. Holmes/Sang-moon Bae–Holmes, the 33-year-old Kentuckian, wasn’t even supposed to be on this squad. Captain Haas tabbed him as the replacement for Jim Furyk, who pulled out of the competition with a wrist injury. Still, he’ll be a welcome addition, coming off of top 10s in his last two FedEx Cup events, including a tie for fourth at the BMW Championship. He’s also got his incredible length off the tee on his side, which, depending on the format and opponents, could give him a tremendous advantage. Bae, the only Korean playing this week, turned around a sour summer with a tie for sixth at the Barclays. It got him to East Lake, but other than that first finish, his run through the playoffs was uninspiring. The home crowd advantage won’t be enough to put him on top of this head-to-head, nor will his two pro wins at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea. Advantage: Team USA
All told, that makes six for Team USA, five for Team International and one push. Based on that, the Americans should still be the favorites this week, but the top-heavy international squad has a great chance to pull off is first upset in years. Now, the only thing left for us to do is anxiously await the start of play on Thursday.
