Rory McIlroy: Looking for Form at Race to Dubai
Rory McIlroy is focused on form and, specifically, form on the putting surface as he heads into the Race to Dubai.
“I’m more concerned about form than fitness right now.” Rory McIlroy said about the state of his body, specifically his ankle, before the Turkish Airlines Open, the first leg of the final four in the Race to Dubai.
“I’ve started to train the way I was before the injury.” he said, which conjures up images of the Golf Digest story on his workout routines.

“I’ve made a few steps in the right direction.” he said about the progress on his game. “This week’s another opportunity to see where my game is, try to get into contention, and you try to try to win.”
Even though he said at the Tour Championship that money is not a motivator for him at this juncture, he still has victory goals. “Obviously I’d like to win the race to Dubai. I’d like to win at least one of these last three events that I’m playing. That would make me feel even better about the end of the year.”
It was a season of promise when it dawned, but as the months rolled by, it was clear that 2015 belonged to Jordan Spieth and not Rory McIlroy, at least in the majors. So snagging the final big prize of the season would soothe the memories of what might have been.
“You know, from whenever it was when I injured my ankle at the start of July, if I was to go from then ‘til the end of the season without another win, especially with how I was playing up until that point, would be very disappointing,” he added.

He’s looking at the next three weeks as opportunities for a victory and to seal his Race to Dubai title for the third time.
McIlroy believes his problems this year have been mainly on the greens.
“I’ve struggled with my putting more than anything else,” he admitted. “I felt like I didn’t really hit the ball great at the Tour Championship. I felt like I hit the ball better at Frys. I was getting a little bit more pressure on it.” His best recent performance, he thinks, was at the BMW where he was tied for 4th.
“I thought that was going to be a springboard to the rest of the year and didn’t quite follow that up at the Tour Championship,” he added.
He has been working on his putting, but he just hasn’t seen the results yet.
“It would mean an awful lot to win the race to Dubai for a third time. It’d be a great achievement, and that’s obviously what I’m trying to do the next few weeks,” he said. “It’s sort of been two steps forward and one step back a little bit since I’ve come back from injury. I’d just like to keep moving forward these next four weeks and finish the season off on a positive note.”
Perhaps this is the week that it turns around. One thing for certain, he’s not lacking confidence. He said on Golf Channel during Morning Drive that he believed when his game is on, no one can beat him.
But that hasn’t been the case lately.
