Hero World Challenge Fantasy Picks and Sleepers

Tiger Woods hosts the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas this week, so here are your fantasy picks for the field of 18 golfers.

Despite being the 400th-ranked golfer in the world, Tiger Woods will still be in action this week in the Bahamas. Woods will host a field of 18 golfers at the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Course.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth will be joined by Champion Golfer of the Year Zach Johnson, 10 other available players from the Official World Golf Ranking and two special exemption players selected by the Tiger Woods Foundation.

It’s undoubtedly a stacked field and very small group of golfers, making it that much more difficult to pick out which golfers to choose from a fantasy perspective. So to help you decide on your fantasy rosters, here are three favorites and three sleeper picks that could make a run at the Hero World Challenge.

Hole-in-One Picks

Jordan Spieth

It’s really hard to go against Jordan Spieth at this point in his career, especially after the season he just had. You would think the 22 year old would slow down during the mini-offseason, but he’s continued his dominance.

Spieth is coming off a runner-up finish at the Australian Open and a T-7 at the WGC-HSBC Champions earlier in November. He may not be winning tournaments every week, but he’s still putting himself in contention. He’s still showing that he can compete and until he hits a decline, I’d continue to ride the hot hand.

Justin Rose

Justin Rose’s season flew under the radar with the performances from Spieth and Jason Day, but Rosey had himself a stellar year. After wrapping up his 2014-15 PGA TOUR season, Rose had more success in the Final Series of the Race to Dubai.

More from Pro Golf Now

Rose won the UBS Hong Kong Open in October and finished fourth in the Race to Dubai standings. He finished T-7 at the BMW Masters and T-22 in the season finale at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. His only start for the PGA TOUR’s new season resulted in a T-7 at the Frys.com Open.

The confidence is there for the Englishman and he’s already won two times this year. Rose won’t be intimidated by the field this week.

Adam Scott

Adam Scott had a quiet season, but he’s starting to regain his form. It’s only a matter of time before he rebounds with a victory. The Aussie had a solo second place finish at the CIMB Classic at the end of October and is coming off a tie for second at the Australian Open.

Scott has won an event in his last 15 years and is in trouble of missing out on a 16th consecutive year. He hasn’t won a tournament since the 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational and is in jeopardy of ending his streak that dates back to 2001.

He put himself in contention last week in Australia and enters the Hero World Challenge with the belief that he can still win golf tournaments. Watch out for the Aussie to keep his streak alive this week in the Bahamas.

Sleeper Picks

Anirban Lahiri

Lahiri had a rough ending to the Presidents Cup by missing a crucial putt on the final hole, but he still played well enough to make the International Team roster so that says something about his year.

More from Jordan Spieth

He earned his PGA TOUR card and cracked the top 20 in the Race to Dubai standings last season. He’s flown under the radar for someone who grabbed two wins on the European Tour last season.

He’s sponsored by Hero MotorCorp which is also the same title sponsor as the Hero World Challenge. Lahiri will be paired with the defending champion Jordan Spieth in the first round as well. I’m not sure if these two factors will help him, but I like to think it’s good juju.

Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka balanced life on the European Tour and PGA TOUR last season, so he may have not gotten as much recognition as he should have. However, Koepka is one of the rising stars of today’s game and is bound to start climbing up leaderboards.

The Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas is over 7,400 yards long and will play right into the wheelhouse of ol’ Brooks. Koepka is one of the longest hitters on TOUR, ranking 8th overall in driving distance in 2015 and 6th in 2014.

He won the Waste Management Phoenix Open last season, as well as eight other top 10 finishes. Koepka’s one guy to keep on your radar this weekend.

Paul Casey

The Englishman Paul Casey placed T-7 in his last start on the European Tour at the BMW Masters. He also has two top 25s in his only two starts on the new PGA TOUR calendar.

Casey is one of the best iron players on the PGA TOUR, ranking 5th on the greens in regulation with 72.36%. Paul will be able to show off his irons on the five par 3s and five par 5s on the Albany Golf Course. If he can capitalize on these holes, he will put himself in contention.

Not to mention the course is a desert links style course, something he got plenty of when he played golf for Arizona State down in the desert.
