Golfers can’t do their best without good footwear.

Matt Cochran

Matt Cochran has confided to me that he really wants a more consistent game off the tee but he doesn’t believe that’s a realistic request. (Apparently Matt’s too old to embrace the magical aspect of the holiday.)  As an alternative, he’s shared that he needs some new golf shoes, but not just any golf shoes.

"“In particular, the new Nike Lunar Control 4 golf shoes that Rory McIlroy wore towards the end of his season. I love the design. The salmon highlights mixed in the the white base color is a great look. I’m also a big fan of the larger Nike Swoosh going across the front toe of the shoe. It’s a slick new look and I think we could see more golf shoes following this same approach.”"

I’m of the opinion that a golfer just can’t have too many pairs of golf shoes and that we all play better when we look good, so it follows that our shoes should complete our outfits.  Just look at Lexi Thompson, who seems to have endless color-coordinated sets of shoes, visors and gloves.  So perhaps Matt’s golf gift giver should consider a salmon-colored glove to coordinate with the shoes.

Along the footwear line, Adidas has a new model that Jason Day and Dustin Johnson are wearing, the adipower BOOST. These shoes are designed to give golfers a spring-like energy return that will deliver more power at impact.

I personally won’t wear anything but ECCO BIOM2 hybrids.  They give my feet the most incredible support and get me through a full round without foot fatigue.  And best of all, they come in many colors!

The cost: Golf shoes are not cheap but you can probably shop around (try Zappo’s) and get less than retail. Still, plan on somewhere in the $150-$200 range for a pair of good golf shoes.
