While Lydia Ko walked off with top honors and top dollars again in 2015, dig deeper and you’ll find a broader women’s golf story unfolding.

2015 was a spectacular year in women’s golf, punctuated by some memorable moments on both the LPGA and Ladies European Tours.

Now that Shanshan Feng has brought the season to a close by besting her own record on the Emirates Golf Club track and hoisting her 3rd consecutive trophy at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters – an impressive and memorable accomplishment in itself – let’s take a breath and look back over the year.

There were victories and defeats. There were breathtaking demonstrations of athletic skill and there were some shots players and fans alike would probably like to forget.

But all of what we tuck into our memories are not just those athletic moments. Sometimes the emotions and passions that fueled the shot are more enduring than the athletic execution. Interestingly, not all these memorable moments took place on the golf course.

This is a game of many and nuanced dimensions and the politics of the game, as with politics everywhere, extend beyond the playing field to the less visible arenas of play; and the emotions that inform competition, while initially less visible, often resonate long after the memory of the competition has faded.

Let’s pause and catch our collective breath before we go forward into the 2016 season and relish some of the best moments of the year in women’s golf.
