2. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 04

Tiger Woods PGA Tour was the apex in golf of a golden era in sports video games.

You might have noticed a number of these top games came out right around the same time. I don’t know what it was, but sports games in the early to mid 2000’s were just on point.

If you were to ask someone what their favorite football game is, I would be willing to bet the vast majority of people would say either Madden NFL 2005, NFL 2K5, or NCAA Football 05.

The same goes for baseball as EA Sports’ MVP Baseball 04 and 05. In my opinion, the greatest boxing game of all-time was Fight Night Round 2 – when did that game come out? 2005.

The formula for making sports games was just spot on and magic was being made back then. A truly golden era for sports gaming.

Golf was no different as you can see from this list and the best golf game from that era I would say is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 04.

Like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 03, this game was more of the same as that in your face type gameplay. A lot of fun and confidence, but the setting allowed you to put enough sensitive into the swing to give it a more simulation feel.

This game was also the first to introduce “Game Face” which gave you the option of putting your face on your created golfer. Now, these results were wildly varied, but it was a neat idea.

Also, one more note, this game was available online for the first time. You could go online on the PlayStation 2 version and play against other people.

Obviously, a massive step towards the future as all games basically have to have online functionality now, for better or worse.
