Tshwane Open Ultimate Fantasy Golf Lineup
By Matt Cochran
The Tshwane Open tees off this week at Pretoria Country Club, so set your fantasy lineups with this outline for the perfect lineup.
The European Tour will start up their fantasy golf league in March of 2016, but there is no better time to get an early start on the competition. Get some practice in starting with the Tshwane Open this week in South Africa.
The Tshwane Open is hosted at Pretoria Country Club. The course only clocks in at 6,900 yards, but course management will be a must this week as the track has some difficult positioning holes and difficult doglegs. When you’re searching for golfers this week, keep in mind that distance isn’t a necessity.
After three exciting weeks in the desert, the field this week thins out from what we’ve been seeing. Long gone are the Jordan Spieths and Rory McIlroys, so finding some solid players in the field may be more challenging than most weeks.
I’ve scoured the field for the best fantasy lineup for the Tshwane Open. My roster includes one top-tier player, two middle-tier players, and one bottom of the barrel guy.
Top Play – Charl Schwartzel
I’m taking the 2011 Masters winner this week as my hole-in-one play. Most people will be drawn to George Coetzee and rightfully so. Coetzee is playing on his home course and is the defending champion. So fade the public and pick up another promising name.

On the PGA TOUR side of things, Schwartzel has a decent start to the season with a T-6 at the Frys.com Open and T-35 at the WGC-HSBC Champions. Meanwhile, on the European Tour, he has a win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and tie for 9th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Schwartzel is playing in his home country and is a great ball striker for this Pretoria Country Club. Look for Schwartzel to challenge Coetzee this week.
Birdie Plays – Brandon Stone and Jaco Van Zyl
Stone picked up his first European Tour victory earlier this year at the BMW South African Open, but hasn’t made too much noise since then.
He struggled throughout the Desert Swing with the deeper fields, but he could find himself getting back on track at the Tshwane Open with this weaker field. He won’t be intimidated by the bigger names and can use the confidence from his recent win to string together some low rounds.
Jaco Van Zyl is another South African in the field this week and has been trending upward on the European Tour. Van Zyl has three top 20 finishes in his last four starts and has a promising short game that could fare well this week.
Bogey Play – Daniel IM
Just because this is called a bogey play doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad play. Rather, it’s a name that most people aren’t going to be using, but has plenty of value.
The American has shown promise to his start on the European Tour with two top eight finishes in four starts. He tied for eighth at the BMW South African Open and tied for third at the Joburg Open. He struggled in the stronger field at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, but he’s back to a weaker field this week and can find success again.
Next: Tshwane Open Fantasy Golf Power Rankings
He ended 2015 as 438 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but has climbed himself back to 305 in the first month of the year. Look for him to continue his climb up the OWGR this week in South Africa.
