Tiger Woods Attends Ryder Cup Dinner, Remains in Social Media Spotlight
By Matt Cochran
After staying in the spotlight for most of the week, there was another Tiger Woods sighting on Thursday night at a dinner for the Ryder Cup team.
For a guy who hasn’t said much since December, Tiger Woods has found himself in the social media spotlight all week. It’s usually pretty difficult to squeeze any information out of Tiger’s camp, especially when he battles with injury.
However, after an anonymous Twitter account tweeted an inaccurate report of Big Cat’s rehabilitation process, the 14-time major winner has begun to pop up across social media platforms.
By now, everyone has heard the rumors first started by @SecretTourPro, saying Tiger Woods had relapsed in his recovery and could barely even move. The @SecretTourPro also said he could only walk around for 30 minutes and couldn’t even drive a car. Golf writer Robert Lusetich shortly followed up with a similar report of his own.
This became the topic of discussion on Twitter, as golf fans argued whether or not the reports should be trusted. Not even 48 hours later, Tiger Woods himself took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to squash all the rumors.

With the simple sentence, “Progressing nicely,” Eldrick posted a picture of him taking a smooth swing and hitting into a golf simulator. In layman’s terms, Tiger essentially gave a big middle to everyone doubting him.
Woods continued to stay in the spotlight on Thursday night, even if he didn’t mean to. The Honda Classic is currently going on in Jupiter, Florida, just 20 minutes from Tiger Woods house. Although he’s not in the field this week at PGA National, Big Cat was still spotted rubbing elbows with some of the golfers.
Jack and Barbara Nicklaus hosted a Ryder Cup get together on Thursday night at their house, with potential players, captains, and vice-captains all in attendance. That even includes Tiger Woods.
Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III posted a picture on Twitter of the whole crew who attended. If you look close enough, you’ll see a familiar face hiding in the back. It’s almost like a game of “Where’s Waldo,” but instead of Waldo we’re looking for one of the greatest golfers of all time.
If you look between Jimmy Walker and Kevin Kisner’s grumpy face, you can see vice-captain Tiger Woods cheesing for the camera.
So after a couple months not hearing from the Woods camp, the G.O.A.T. himself appears out of nowhere. It’s not only great to see him back in the spotlight, but he also appears to be in much better condition that we were led to believe.
Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte reported earlier in the week that a “trusted source” told him Woods was hitting driver late last week. Rosaforte is a member at Medalist Golf Club, the same club Tiger belongs to. Tiger’s close friend Notah Begay has also reported that he’s “getting better.”
On top of all this, the Ryder Cup captain DLIII told BBC that he thinks Woods can still make the Ryder Cup team. He told the British Broadcasting Company:
"“If he can play 10 or 12 tournaments in a row, I think he can get his game back and make our team. Tiger is very adamant he can handle both roles. I think Tiger will work hard enough, if his body will allow it.”"
It’s definitely been an emotional week for Tiger fans, starting with news that he’s in the worst shape of his life to news that he’s actually progressing and some believe a comeback is on the horizon.

It’s becoming a big game of “He Said, She Said,” making it difficult to decide what’s really happening with Tiger. Seeing him back in the spotlight shows some signs of hope that he could be back sooner than we thought. You have to think that he has his sights set on Augusta National, which is only 40 days away. Not like we’re counting or anything.
