U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III will select three of his four Captain’s Picks after the conclusion of the BMW Championship, scheduled to conclude on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016. His fourth pick will take place Sunday evening after the TOUR Championship, Sept. 25, 2016.
It will be very hard to judge where Love will go with his picks since its only May, but he will be looking to balance his team rather than simply pick the strongest individual stroke play performers. Building a coordinated golf team is not unlike building any competitive athletic team, as Love sees it:
"“You’re basing it on kind of like a football team or a hockey team that has a fast-skating line and now we need defense line, we need penalty-killing line. So we’re trying to fill holes with our draft and make matchups and make teams that make sense. … We need a balance.”"
A few studs who are on the bubble and playing well are J.B. Homes, Charley Hoffman, Bill Haas, and Brooks Koepka. I’d love to see some kids go on a tear this year and make the team like Smylie Kaufmann & Daniel Berger. Who knows what will happen four months from now. Maybe Tiger will make a comeback?! That is very doubtful but, it will be fun to see how it all plays out 4 months from now.
