Who will follow in Angel Cabrera’s footsteps and emerge victorious at the US Open this week?

US Open week is finally upon us! Rejoice, golf fans! It’s one of just four weeks every year where we can sit back, relax and enjoy watching the game’s top players vie for the most prestigious titles in golf.

Danny Willett’s improbable win at the Masters two months ago gave us a nice taste, but the main course is still around the corner – the year’s final three majors will be contested in the next six weeks, starting with America’s national, the US Open, at Oakmont Country Club.

Speaking of Oakmont, the Western Pennsylvania course is consistently ranked as having one of the best designs in the country. It lacks water hazards and trees, but its extreme number of bunkers more than compensates. Throw in the large and ultra-fast greens and it’s set up to be a fittingly brutal test for the world’s best players – predictions from numerous experts suggest that this year’s winning score could be several strokes over par.

Projecting a golf tournament is never a straightforward task, but it’s made even more difficult this week by the fact that Oakmont has hosted just one PGA TOUR event in the last two decades: the 2007 US Open. For that reason, there’s very little course history to rely on, so we’ll have to do the best we can with the information we have – namely, recent results and statistics.

Without further ado, let’s go ten deep. Here are the best bets for success for this week’s US Open.
