#4: Danny Willett (1 win, $1,899,129)

He ranks just 32nd in earnings this season, but Willett is proof that money isn’t everything when it comes to the POY discussion. In April, the 28-year-old became the first Englishman to don a green jacket since Nick Faldo in 1996, providing more than enough reason to include him on this list.

Willett entered the Masters as the world No. 12 and didn’t turn any heads out of the gate, shooting an even-par 216 for the first 54 holes. He caught fire on Sunday, however, circling three birdies on the back nine to take control of the tournament as Jordan Spieth met his watery demise. He ended up with a final round 67, equaling the low round of the day.

Because he wasn’t actually a PGA Tour member until he won the Masters, Willett’s season-long totals aren’t nearly as good as those of most of his peers. His Player of the Year case is somewhat flawed from the get-go, but we need to respect major results. He also stands a great chance at winning the award on the European Tour. He currently leads the Race to Dubai by more than a million points, a testament to his great play in 2016.
