If she can sidestep the bogeys, Karine Icher’s game could keep her in contention.

At first glance Karine Icher doesn’t seem a likely candidate for my sleeper picks. She’s 38 years old, has been playing on the LPGA Tour since 2003, and although she’s recorded three LET victories is still looking for her first Tour win.

But let’s not jump to hasty conclusions. Icher is having a very good season and she’s steadily improved her performance over her last 4 starts, from a T37 finish at the Honda LPGA Thailand to a T25 at the HSBC Women’s Champions to a T13 at the Founders Cup to a T4 at the Kia Classic.

Icher is so-so on the putting surface – she couldn’t get below 30 putts per round last week at the Kia Classic – but she’s remarkably accurate off the tee and in her tee-to-green play.

Icher is very familiar with the Rancho Mirage track and her best ANA Inspiration finish came in 2015 with a T11.  If she can minimize her bogeys this week Icher could surprise us all and end up in the final group on Sunday.
