1: Dustin Johnson

7 events – 1903 points, 3 wins, 5 top 10’s (avg. points/event – 271.86)

Last start: Win, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play (550 FedEx Cup points)

Dustin Johnson hasn’t played in over a month. He missed a major he was a prohibitive favorite to win, and there have been five full-field tournaments since he won the Match Play in March.

And he’s still got a 50-point lead over a guy who has three wins this year. Let that sink in for just a second.

Johnson makes his return to action this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, and I’m not alone in ranking him at the top of the field. If he’s fully healthy, there’s simply nobody playing the game like him today. Once known for being a bomber, he’s now morphed into the type of guy you make in a video game – 320-yard drives, deadly accurate irons and ice in his veins with a putter.

Rust might be a factor this week as the Tour heads to Eagle Point, but it’s hard to imagine anybody truly challenging Johnson for the top spot on this list for the months to come. Right now, until someone steps up to the plate, it’s DJ’s world – everybody else is just living in it.

Can anybody catch DJ in this year-long race to the FedEx Cup? Before Augusta National it didn’t seem likely. Now, DJ fans are waiting and watching as the long, tall bomber returns to competition.
