Stephen Curry is obviously known for his wizardry on the basketball court. But did you know he’s nearly just as effective on the golf course?

You may know the name Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors all-star guard and arguably the best shooter in the NBA.  But what you may not know is that Curry is an avid golfer and is often seen hitting balls on the course during the offseason.

The number one golfer on his high school team, Curry is a golf fanatic and tends to follow the game quite closely, even when prepping for a playoff or NBA Finals game. Just like basketball, the game of golf came to Curry through his father, former sharpshooter Dell Curry, who fell in love with it after receiving golf clubs as a Christmas present. The younger Curry told Sports Illustrated that his favorite thing about golf is being able to spend some quality time with his dad.

Curry’s dedication to the game is due to the competitive nature between himself and his father. Dell currently has a 4.8 handicap index and is a founding member of the Golf Club at Longview just outside Charlotte, North Carolina, where he spent many years as a member of the Hornets.

Stephen has a handicap index of 1.2 and is thought out to be the NBA’s best golfer. Curry’s love of golf extends so far that he had made a bet in 2015 with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr that if the team won the NBA Finals, he would have to help Curry and teammate Andre Iguodala get on at Augusta National. He got his wish after the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

In an interview with Golf Digest before the 2015 NBA Finals, Curry said, “I know how special Augusta is and I love the Masters, but I haven’t had the opportunity to get there.”

Curry’s family thinks that he is so good that he could exchange his professional basketball career for a career in professional golf. Dell once even told thepostgame.com that if Steph got himself a coach and really put in the time like he does on the basketball court that he could go pro.

Curry is a big fan of Jordan Spieth, which isn’t surprising considering that both have endorsement deals with Under Armour. Whether it be at a Mavericks game (Spieth’s hometown team) when the Warriors come to town or on the golf course, the two have become good pals.

The two have such a close bond that when Spieth hit two balls in the water on the 12th hole at Augusta at the 2016 Masters, Curry fell on the floor during his pre-game shot routine, which is something that’s hardly ever interfered with, before a game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Curry tries to play as much golf as he can in the offseason and charity golf tournaments are a big priority for him in the summer. His wife, Ayesha, does her best to put a limit on how much time Steph spends on the golf course and says that he’d probably live out there if he could.

So while it may be difficult to imagine Steph Curry giving up the hardwood for a 3-wood, don’t be surprised if he makes a little run at competitive golf when he hangs up his sneakers.
