He’s jumped from No. 961 in the world at the end of 2016 to No. 242 heading into the Rocco Forte Open. He’s still well shy of brother Francesco at No. 33, but some recent form has shown his Ryder Cup-caliber play has not fully sapped.
Molinari’s been boom or bust this year with five made cuts and four missed. When he’s around for the weekend, he’s either going for it all — a win, T7 and T11 — or he’s going home with pennies made — a T76 and 70 round out his results sheet.
If you’re looking for someone to firmly make the cut, Molinari might not be your guy. With that said, picking a four-time winner on Tour playing on home soil can never be too foolish of a selection.
