Joost Luiten’s most recent of his five European Tour wins came last September at the KLM Open. Since then he’s delivered one solid round of golf after another. It’s just a matter of time before Luiten converts one of his frequent top 10 finishes into another win.
Luiten’s not especially long off the tee but he’s not short either and he’s skilled at keeping his ball safely in the short grass. His PGA TOUR stats describe a careful, accurate golfer: SG: off-the-tee – 1.200; SG: approach-the-green – 1.405; SG: tee-to-green – 2.326. If he maintained this momentum on the putting surface Luiten would be unbeatable. Unfortunately, that’s his soft spot.
We’ll just have to wait and see how he manages the new Wentworth greens. But given his overall performance, I’m looking for Luiten to improve on his 2016 T27 finish at the BMW PGA Championship this week.
