Ben Martin — No. 225

More from Pro Golf Now

He’s just 29 years old, but it’s already been an up-and-down career for this Clemson product. The owner of an outstanding amateur career with Clemson, Martin initially struggled to find his footing on the PGA TOUR, but after moving back down to the Web.com circuit, he returned with a more polished game and excelled almost immediately, winning his first event at the 2014 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. This year, he seems to have regressed to his pre-2013 form, but with improved recent results, he could rise to the occasion this week.

Martin enters this week on a run of back-to-back top 30 finishes: a tie for 18th at the Wells Fargo Championship and a tie for 30th at THE PLAYERS Championship. It’s been months since his results have been that strong, so he should be feeling confident heading into this week’s event. With three consecutive top 30 finishes at Colonial, including a tie for 21st in 2014 and a tie for 10th one year later, he’s got a good track record to fall back on, further improving his outlook.

With his improved recent play, Martin has all the makings of a strong sleeper pick. Let’s see if he can make the most of this opportunity.
