Tiger Woods posted an update on his website on Wednesday discussing his recovery from his latest back surgery and his desire to return to competitive golf.

“I haven’t felt this good in years.”

Tiger Woods posted an update on his recovery from his latest back surgery on his website on Wednesday and the 14-time major championship winner sounds very optimistic. Golf fans shouldn’t expect to see Tiger teeing it up (at least competitively) anytime soon but seeing how positive he is about his rehab is very encouraging.

Woods says that he tried everything possible to make it to The Masters but says that the pain was very similar to the pain he felt at the 2008 U.S. Open (you know, the one he won on a broken freaking leg) and he just couldn’t do it. He did, however, say how much he enjoyed the Champions Dinner and also congratulated Sergio Garcia on his win, which is certainly something you wouldn’t expect given the history between the two.

He then hit on what many golf fans around the world were waiting to find out. How is he doing physically?

"“As for returning to competitive golf, the long-term prognosis is positive. My surgeon and physiotherapist say the operation was successful. It’s just a matter of not screwing up and letting it fuse. I’m walking and doing my exercises, and taking my kids to and from school. All I can do is take it day by day. There’s no hurry.“But, I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again.”"

Well that should put any retirement rumors to rest. He continued in saying that he wouldn’t even be able to twist for the next three months so if you were awaiting a surprise entry into the remaining three major championships left on the schedule, just go ahead and forget that. Tiger is focusing on short-term goals but says that he’s very happy to be pain-free, which is definitely a good sign.

Whether you like him or not, golf is always a little bit more interesting when Tiger Woods is involved, even with the great state of the game at the moment. It’s impossible to know whether Tiger can ever win on the PGA TOUR again but one thing is for sure. It would be nice to see him be able to try.
