Nelly Korda – this rookie has her eyes on the top of the board
Group 3 offers several surprisingly strong choices, all of them rookies. Mel Reid, Nelly Korda, Nicole Broch Larsen and Emily Pedersen are all on my list of sleepers to take the win this week and they present a quartet of strong options in this group.

Reid is a very experienced links golf competitor and while she’s missed way too many cuts this season, I sense it’s because she’s dividing her time between the LPGA and Ladies European Tours. It’s a difficult balancing act that’s taking a toll on her game. With 2 consecutive missed cuts at the Kingsmill and the Volvik, she’s a risk, but she may well be the horse for this course.
Broch Larsen and Pedersen – I tend to think of them as the Danish sisters – are in much the same situation as Mel Reid. Like Reid, Broch Larsen and Pedersen are playing their rookie year on the LPGA Tour and, like Reid, they’re dividing their time between LPGA and LET events. They both have solid games and are experienced links players.
Nelly Korda is delivering an exceptionally strong game. She finished T9 at the Volvik last week – it was her 2nd top 10 finish this year. And I just plain like Nelly’s game, particularly her 28.75 putts per round average which puts her at 12th on the Tour right now in putting. A few more high finishes will put her in a very advantageous position to make a play for Captain Inkster’s attention and a captain’s pick spot on the American Solheim Cup team. Korda is a talented and highly motivated golfer. That’s a great combination.
