A near-U.S. Open winner, Jason Gore, will also be in Rockville. He bowed to Retief Goosen in the final group in 2005 and has four Open starts. With a PGA TOUR win, several Web.com Tour wins and Walker Cup experience, Gore may be the most decorated at Woodmont.
Lexi Thompson’s older brother, Nicholas, is going for his fourth U.S. open appearance.
Tied for the youngest player at any sectional is Mike Brennan. The 15-year-old from Leesburg, Virginia, placed fifth at the 2016 Virginia high school state championship. He’ll have to do two better against several professionals to make the U.S. Open, but this is a pretty cool story, nonetheless.
