Some of my favorite up-and-coming players are in Group 2 this week: Austin Ernst, Angel Yin, Beth Allen, Emily Pedersen, and Nicole Broch Larsen.

More from Pro Golf Now

Ernst got off to a solid and very hopeful start this season but she hasn’t regained her momentum since that missed cut at the Texas Shootout. I’m not striking Ernst off my list of favorites – I look for her to restart, but not this week.

Beth Allen should feel right at home this week. The Southern Californian transplanted to Scotland knows how to manage links golf, but Allen’s missed three consecutive cuts coming into the Manulife. I want to see her playing that game she delivered at the Australian Open before I put her to work.

Emily Pedersen and Nicole Broch Larsen continue to intrigue me, despite their limited starts at LPGA events. Pedersen delivered an impressive short game at the ShopRite and her top 20 finish was a proper reward. Nicole Broch Larsen has made more starts but she’s yet to fulfill her potential.

I can’t get my mind off Angel Yin’s back-to-back top 5 finishes at the Texas Shootout and the Lorena Ochoa Match Play. Yin’s cooled off a bit since Mexico but I don’t look for that to continue.  She’s long off the tee, ranking 9th on the Tour in driving distance, but struggles a bit with accuracy. Still, with a 28.93 putts per round average and a good sand saves record, Yin’s in hot pursuit of the 2017 Rookie of the Year award and a captain’s pick spot on the American Solheim Cup team. She has some incentives driving her game. I’m going to put her to work.
