Amateur Mason Andersen, 17, took second at nine-under to also qualify for his first major. He’s headed to Arizona State in the fall.
The 2017 Masters low amateur and 2016 Mid-Amateur champion, Stewart Hagestad, finished third at eight-under.
Kevin Dougherty was the lone professional to advance, though some of his amateur competitors have a greater résumé. The Oklahoma State grad has just one start in 2017 on any of the world golf ranking point-earning tours, a missed cut at the PGA Tour’s Genesis Open.
Dougherty tied with Sahith Theegala at seven-under. Theegala, a Pepperdine University player, made the cut at the Genesis Open this year. Cameron Champ, a Texas A&M golfer, beat out fellow amateur Brandon Wu for the final spot at six-under. Wu is the first alternate followed by Gregor Main.
