Grab two friends, snag a sponsor, and sign up for the Web.com Tour Championship pro-am this September!

Have you always wanted to play in a pro-am but didn’t know how? The Web.com Tour Championship, which will be held September 27th at Atlantic Beach CC in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, is opening up spots for you right now.  It’s your chance to rub elbows with PGA TOUR pros who are in the Web.com Finals trying to get their status back for the 2018 season as well as up and coming Web.com Tour players. The catch is you need to sponsor your own foursome.

All the fun starts with a pro-am draw party, Tuesday, September 26th, at Atlantic Beach CC, which has been renovated and reconfigured in the last three years.  According to Alexandria Pulos of the PGA TOUR, the draw party is an NFL style draft where amateurs pick their player for the pro-am.

The party features an open bar and buffet with live music. Executives from the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour will mingle. You can ask them questions about the Tours or anything you have always wanted to know about professional golf.  Pro-am participant gifts will also be distributed at the party.  Last year, they included custom Scotty Cameron putters.

Pros in the field

In case you are wondering who will be in the event, it is sure to be the top 75 on the Web.com money list at the end of their regular season as well as players who finish 126-200 on the PGA TOUR FedEx point list.  In addition, the Web.com Championship will award the final 25 PGA TOUR cards for the 2018 season, and so it is sure to be hard fought.

Last year’s field would have included Wesley Bryan, who won the RBC Heritage this year, and Ollie Schniederjans and Dominic Bozzelli, both of whom have been in PGA TOUR events this season.

Right now the list includes Smylie Kaufman, Sam Saunders ( Arnold Palmer’s grandson), Bryson DeChambeau, Jim Furyk (although he may have some other exemption categories that keep him out of the Web.com Championship, or he may have a stronger second half of the season.)  Others who would be in if the event were held today include Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa, U.S. Open and Masters champ Angel Cabrera, former Georgia Tech standout Bryce Molder, and even two time U.S. Open champ Retief Goosen.  You just never know who will end up between 126 and 200 each year.

Perks for the Ams

The Tuesday evening pro-am party features an open bar and buffet plus live music. Executives from the Tours will mingle, and you can ask them questions about the Tours or anything you have always wanted to know about professional golf.  Pro-am participant gifts will also be distributed at the party.  Last year, they included custom Scotty Cameron putters.

Wednesday morning, you’ll be treated like royalty from the time you arrive on pro-am day, from valet parking to breakfast prepared by the club chefs.  Then, be like the pros and warm up at the range before your round.

Your team will play an 18-hole shamble with your pro.  That’s where every player hits a drive, and the best one is selected, and all players hit their second shot from that location. All players play their own balls for the rest of the hole. Lunch will be delivered to you on the course, or you can have lunch after you finish, depending on the time you complete your round.

Atlantic Beach CC was slated to be the site of last year’s Web.com Championship because TPC Sawgrass was still undergoing renovations and that included renovations to the state-of-the-art range.  Because that would have affected warm up and practice for the Web.com players, the PGA TOUR worked out Atlantic Beach CC as an alternative site for 2016,  but hurricane Matthew got in the way and the tournament was never played.  The PGA TOUR decided to honor its commitment to Atlantic Beach CC and hold the Web.com Tour Championship there this year instead.

Now, if you are new to the idea of playing in pro-ams, many people, including the pros themselves, like to use the pro-am to network and to make business contacts. Already signed up for the event are teams from Wells Fargo, Southern Fidelity, Grebe Management, Swisher International, Interline Brands, Pivot CPAs, Regions Bank, Baptist Health (hospital), Owens & Minor Inc., Jacksonville Jaguars, Dynamix Group Inc., the PGA TOUR, and Golf Channel.
