Although she lost a tournament she probably feels as though she should have won last week, with a win and four additional top 10 finishes on her 2017 resume Lexi Thompson is clicking right along. And that back nine tumble down the board Sunday afternoon at the Manulife doesn’t trouble me at all. Lexi Thompson is an all-around solid player whose flatstick went cold on her. It happens and when it does there’s not a thing in the world you can do to get it hot again except play through the slump. That’s exactly what Thompson did and, hopefully, she’ll be back in form this week.
Thompson’s forté is her ball-striking power. I truly enjoy watching her execute approach shots. She brings an exceptional level of energy to the game and while it can sometimes get her off course, more often than not it’s that ball-striking power that gets her to the putting surface ahead of the competition and in a position to go low on the leaderboard. That’s why she’s 2nd on the Tour in GIR.
Thomson had a top 5 finish at Blythefield last year. Let’s see if she can shake off her Manulife finish and improve over that performance this week.
