With two top-5s in her last three starts, I’m ready to start looking at Michelle Wie as a contender again. She’s still a bit erratic, particularly on the putting surface, but I sense she’s settling into her new putting style and grip and gaining confidence. Wie doesn’t have much of a history here although she did play all four rounds on the Blythefield track last year, so she’s coming in with some local knowledge.

Much will depend on Wie’s ability to putt. The rest of her game is in good shape and getting better with every round she plays. But she needs to get around the Blythefield track with fewer than 27 putts per round, and that would be playing better than her season putting stats. I’m betting that she can do it and that come Sunday we’ll see her on the front page of the board.
