Andres Gonzales — $7,200

We’ll probably never see this Washington native slip into a green jacket, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be useful for fantasy purposes. With a player like Gonzales, it’s all a matter of knowing how to use him, and with a bit of momentum heading into this week’s event, it just might be the perfect time to pull him out of the bargain bin.

More from Pro Golf Now

Gonzales has stayed busy over the past few weeks, making three consecutive cuts. Two of those came at Web.com Tour events, but don’t hold that against him — while the rest of his peers in the reshuffle were getting roughed up at Muirfield Village or Erin Hills, he was gaining momentum on the lower circuit. That should set him up well for the Travelers Championship, where he’s seen some past success — he tied for 17th in last year’s event, closing with three straight sub-70 rounds to move up the leaderboard. At 47th on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained: putting, a repeat performance isn’t out of the question.

Make no mistake — if you’re in a one-and-done league, you shouldn’t roll with Gonzales (and if you do, don’t blame me). But with a mild case of converging trends working in his favor, the 34-year-old could be a good, cost-effective option for this week.
