Jordan Spieth won the 2017 Travelers Championship on Sunday evening, defeating Daniel Berger on the first playoff hole at TPC River Highlands.

Jordan Spieth is back in the winner’s circle.

One week after a final-round 69 at the U.S. Open, Jordan Spieth rode the momentum into the Travelers Championship and capped off a brilliant week with his second victory of the PGA TOUR season, defeating Daniel Berger on the first playoff hole at TPC River Highlands in dramatic fashion.

Spieth entered Sunday’s final round with a one-shot lead on his playing partner for the day, Boo Weekley, and got off to a hot start, making birdies at the first two holes to extend his lead before dropping a shot at the fifth. He went on to make seven consecutive pars and then gave another shot back at the par-4 12th and yet another two holes later at the 14th.

Meanwhile, the rest of the field, minus Weekley, who shot a 2-over 72 to take himself out of contention, was going low with the hope of catching Spieth and that’s exactly what happened for Daniel Berger. Playing in the penultimate group alongside C.T. Pan, Berger went out in 35 with a bogey and a birdie on the front nine but caught fire in the later holes. After 10 consecutive pars, Berger made birdie at the par-5 13th, another at the par-4 15th and another on the 17th before closing with a par at the last for a 3-under 67.

Berger, who was looking to win his second tournament in three starts, watched as Spieth’s approach shot on the 18th found the greenside bunker, meaning the two-time major champion would need to get up and down to force a playoff. Spieth proceeded to hit his bunker shot to about two feet, made the putt and the duo headed back to the 18th tee.

Berger found the rough off the tee while Spieth landed in the fairway some 230 yards away from the hole after hitting a tree. Spieth once again found the sand on his approach but getting up and down as he did to force the playoff must not have been good enough for him. Take a look at how Jordan Spieth finished up the Travelers Championship. The celebration might be just as fun to watch as the shot itself. Great stuff.

Berger could do nothing but look on as the madness unfolded and was extremely gracious in defeat, saying in his post-round interview that it was Jordan Spieth doing Jordan Spieth things. Berger moved into fourth place in the Presidents Cup standings, virtually assuring himself of a spot on the team later this year.

As for Jordan Spieth, he’s now just the second player in history to win 10 PGA TOUR events before the age of 24. The other, you may ask? Some guy named Tiger Woods.
