Georgia Hall is going into the final round at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at 1-under par, no mean accomplishment for a player who hasn’t teed it up in competition for two months.
Hall, who’s playing on a sponsor invite this week, leads the Ladies European Tour Solheim Cup points standings. She’s frustrated by the limited LET playing schedule and she’s not alone. Solheim Cup Team Europe vice-captain Catriona Matthew explained the situation with the LET this way:
"If you’re an emerging player in Europe, you just about need to have a part-time job to keep you going,"
Hall feels that there just aren’t enough tournaments in the LET’s early-season schedule to allow for proper seasoning of the European Solheim Cup team. A look at the standings of the top 8 European players in Solheim Cup rankings makes Hall’s point. Only two of the top eight players made the cut this week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and neither is going into Sunday likely to record a top 10 finish.
Ladies European Tour points list:
1. Georgia Hall (England), playing Women’s PGA Championship, made the cut
2. Florentyna Parker (England), not playing Women’s PGA Championship
3. Mel Reid (England), playing Women’s PGA Championship, missed cut
4. Anna Nordqvist (Sweden), playing Women’s PGA Championship, missed cut
5. Suzann Pettersen (Norway), playing Women’s PGA Championship, made the cut
6. Charley Hull (England), playing Women’s PGA Championship, missed cut
7. Emily Kristine Pedersen (Denmark), not playing Women’s PGA Championship
8. Nanna Koerstz Madsen (Denmark), not playing Women’s PGA Championship
Captain Annika Sorenstam’s challenge will be to ensure that her team is fully prepared for this year’s Solheim Cup challenge.
