The leader after each of the first three rounds at the Quicken Loans National, Lingmerth faded on Sunday at TPC Potomac. Still, the fifth-place finish was his best showing of the year so far. More importantly, it was a continuation of his solid form over the last two-plus months on Tour. Now with six top-25 finishes (and a tie for 26th) in his last eight starts, it’s hard to imagine Lingmerth falling too far off this pace next week.
If that wasn’t enough to get you on the Lingmerth bandwagon, here’s a little history lesson. Lingmerth has been one of the best players at the Old White TPC in recent years. He finished in the top-10 in both 2013 and 2015, and went for a respectable 16th place in 2014. No matter which way you take it, there are positive vibes everywhere for Lingmerth.
Despite the weekend struggles, Lingmerth finished inside the top-20 at Potomac in greens in regulation, strokes gained Tee-to-green. If any of that translates in West Virginia, Lingmerth should be a strong contender.
