Daniel Berger couldn’t have bounced back any better. The winer of the FedEx St. Jude Classic headed to Erin Hills for the U.S. Open in fine form, but never found his rhythm and missed the cut. Not to be held down for long, Berger worked his way into contention at the Travelers Championship, working his way into a playoff with Jordan Spieth.
We’ve all seen the replay of Spieth’s miraculous bunker shot, but Berger couldn’t walk away disappointed. He’d done everything possible to catch Spieth, and simply got caught at the end.
Despite falling a shot short in Cromwell, I’m loving what I’ve seen from Berger lately. This will be his first trip to TPC Deere Run, but Berger is more than equipped to handle a potential shootout situation. Berger currently ranks 14th on TOUR in birdie average, 24th in strokes gained – putting, and 27th in adjusted scoring.
With the Open looming, Berger should gain plenty of confidence this week in his John Deere Classic debut.
