A win this week could get this 26-year-old Californian into the Rookie of the Year mix. One or two more made cuts to round out the season will lock up Spaun’s spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Things are looking up for the Web.com Tour grad.

Spaun owns three top-10s and has been a model of consistency with 13 of 17 made cuts in 2017.

He’s been able to get it done at a big ballpark like Torrey Pines (T9, Farmers Insurance Open) and a ball strikers track like Harbor Town (T6, RBC Heritage).

The San Diego State University product is not dominant in any one statistical category, but he’s solid off the tee and with the flat stick. Many different styles of player have won the John Deere Classic in recent years, and overall solid play can be rewarded.

Spaun isn’t far removed from a rib injury that forced withdrawls from the Dean & Deluca Invitational and the Memorial in the late spring. Nonetheless, he picked up where he left off in his second start back with a T29 last week at the Greenbrier.

Spaun makes his John Deere Classic debut this week.
