David Lingmerth, OWGR – 94

David Lingmerth has yet to find his first victory on either the PGA or European Tour, but as he gains experience he’s getting closer.

I thought for a time Lingmerth was going to close the deal at the PGA TOUR’s Quicken Loans National. He was delivering an impressive, powerful, consistent game. And while he missed the cut last year at the Scottish Open, I think Lingmerth may be ready to contend. He’s gotten a taste of it – at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he finished just outside the top-10, at the Nedbank, where his game kept improving but not quite fast enough.

Lingmerth hasn’t missed a cut at a PGA TOUR event since the Zurich Classic last April. Perhaps more impressive, however, are the four top-20 finishes he was able to string together leading up to that T5 at the Quicken Loans National.

The thing that’s holding Lingmerth back right now is his inconsistency. If he can settle down and play the game I know he has in his bag, he’ll contend. With some fortunate bounces and rolls, Lingmerth could edge right past Stenson and notch his first win this week at Dundonald.
