John Deere Classic

Patrick Rogers is looking more and more like a college prodigy who’s ready to step into a pair of grown-up pro champion’s golf shoes. He’s starting the final round at 16-under par and two shots clear of the closest competition, Daniel Berger and Scott Stallings.

How’s he feeling about the situation going into Sunday? Cautiously optimistic might sum it up:

"It’s very rewarding to be up here right now. I know I have a long way to go, but I’m excited for the opportunity."

It’s not done yet, of course. In addition to Berger and Stallings, Rogers will need to hold off an eager Bryson DeChambeau who, at 4 shots back, can also smell the possibility of victory.

Behind DeChambeau, Zach Johnson is also waiting and perfectly capable of going low on Sunday. After a fairly disappointing third round, Johnson is trailing by five shots as the final round starts, but he another player I won’t bet against.

Brian Harman and Steve Stricker had outstanding moving day rounds, but for them it’s probably a case of too little too late.

Final round play begins at 7:20am local time with Patrick Rogers and Daniel Berger, playing in the final group, teeing off at 12:40pm local time.
