The world No. 1 has flown under the radar after his missed cut at the U.S. Open and lackluster T54 last week at Royal Birkdale. Still, let’s not forget he won three starts in a row this spring, a streak ended by a measly runner-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.
In the home country of father-in-law, Wayne Gretzky, DJ tied for second at Glen Abbey in 2016. This will be his fifth Canadian Open start.
Johnson’s three wins this year were coming off of at least one week of rest, but seeing that this week is only his 14th worldwide start, fatigue shouldn’t be as big of an issue for some of these guys returning from the Open Championship.
Many attest DJ is a quiet, but fiery competitor. Perhaps seeing Jordan Spieth dominate the headlines and inch back closer to world No. 1 will rekindle DJ’s recent dominant streak for a win.
