Paul Dunne gave us all a momentary thrill when, playing as an amateur, he grabbed the lead at the 2015 Open Championship, and while he wasn’t able to hold position he took low amateur and was clearly headed for a successful pro career.
While the young Irishman is still looking for his maiden victory, he has a splendid game in his bag and it’s more a matter of when that win will come rather than if it will. He got close in March at the Tshwane Open and closer still – runner-up close, to be precise – at the Trophée Hassan II in April.
Dunne’s played the weekend at his last three starts, the Open de France, the Irish Open, and the Scottish Open, and while others were battling it out against the golf course and the elements at Royal Birkdale Paul Dunne was resting. He’s coming to this week fresh and ready and with a well-hones short game.
Is this Paul Dunne’s week to notch his first pro victory? It’s quite possible, even probable, but if not a win, I’m looking for Dunne to be in contention on Sunday.
