Carlota Ciganda doesn’t have the track record for the Kingsbarns win but she has the game to get it done. I think she’s started channeling Seve Ballesteros. With 5 top-10 finishes at her LPGA starts and another top-10 at an LET start, Cignada’s having the best season of her career. A win would put the icing on the cake and a win at Kingsbarns would light the sparklers on the top of the Spaniard’s cake!

Buoyed by her T4 finish at the Ladies Scottish Open, which involved some very fine golf on her part, and anticipating the bloodletting that’s coming at the Solheim Cup, Cignada is mentally primed to dominate the field this week.

I’ve always believed that it was her mental game, or a lack of belief in her own skills, that has held Ciganda back from more victories on both the LET and LPGA.  But she’s coming to the tee this week with some recent affirmations that could turn that matter around: a top-20 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship followed by a pair of top-5s at the U.S. Women’s Open and the Ladies Scottish Open.

She has a solid, well-rounded game that should keep her moving in the right direction from tee to green and once on the putting surface all she needs to do is deliver what she already knows how to do.

The oddsmakers don’t see it but I look for Ciganda to be a major threat at the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
