Can a South Korean player win this week at the first PGA Tour event in South Korea?

The PGA Tour is dipping its toes into South Korea for the first time this week at the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges in Jeju Island, South Korea.

More from Pro Golf Now

The course opened in 2001 and is a par 72 and is 7,196 yards though it will play shorter as Nine Bridges sits at 3,500 feet above sea level. The course architects desired a Scottish Highlands feel though it will play more like an aerial American track. The greens are bentgrass. Nine Bridges is widely regarded as the top course in Korea (albeit not a big list there) and a top 100 course in the world.

There are 78 players in the field in this no-cut event, so locking in on players who make a lot of birdies could be useful.

Nine Bridges has hosted an LPGA event from 2002-2005 and will host the 2018 World Club Championship.

Seeing that there is not much to go off of for course history with the field this week, the best bet is to find players on good recent form. The weather forecast looks pretty dry with temperatures in the 60s. It’ll be breezy with sustained winds between 15-25 miles per hour, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Guys like Justin Thomas, Jason Day and Xander Schauffele are a few of the favorites this week, but I’ve got five sleepers who could make some noise at the CJ Cup.
