Phil Mickelson is the Waste Management Phoenix Open’s all-time money leader, and that doesn’t even include how much he’s hustled off of naive rookies in practice rounds. In 24 tournament appearances, Lefty’s earned $3,694,782 in prize money thanks to two victories and a handful of top-10s.

Mickelson nearly joined the 59 club in 2013 with a first-round 60 that set the tone for a four-shot victory, his last regular season win on the PGA Tour. In his last start in Phoenix, Phil tied for 16th in 2017 and was in position to make some noise at the top before settling for a Sunday 71.

Mickelson showed us glimpses of his best self last week at the Farmers Insurance Open on the way to a T45. He was in contention on Saturday after opening rounds of 70 and 68 before limping home for a 76 and 74 on the South Course. It’s been tough for him to string together four rounds together, but this former Arizona State University Sun Devil should feel right at home this week to try to play a complete tournament.

Without too much tree line to deal with, a potentially wayward driver may not be too costly but he’ll need to have a better week with the irons (163rd in GIR last season) to have a chance to contend.

This will be Lefty’s third week of action in 2018 and in a row with a missed cut two weeks ago at the CareerBuilder Challenge.
