2017 was a tough, tough year for Bubba Watson. Ranked No. 10 in the world at the start of the year, he was outside the top 25 by April, and out of the top 50 in August. He was all the way down to 89th at the end of December, and today he’s at No. 108. It doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence, but that could easily turn around in 2018.

I’ve said before that I believe much of his struggles last year revolved around his switch to a Volvik ball. Nothing against the product – I’ve played around with them and they’re fine balls – but it clearly wasn’t the right fit, performance-wise, for Bubba. Back with Titleist this year, he’s gotten off to a slow start, but we saw some flashes late last season of the Bubba we know and love.

Between 2012 and 2016, Watson finished inside the top 15 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open all five years running. On the old design or the new design, Watson has thrived in the desert, and you know the rowdy fans on Super Bowl weekend will be firmly behind the powerful southpaw. If he gets a little bit of momentum behind him, it’ll be fun to watch for sure. Let this low-priced gamble pay off for you.
