SPRINGFIELD, NJ – JULY 31: Jimmy Walker of the United States celebrates his putt for par on the 18th hole to win the 2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club on July 31, 2016 in Springfield, New Jersey. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images) /

Jimmy Walker struggled with consistency for much of the 2016-17 PGA TOUR season, as he battled Lyme disease. It’s still a daily struggle for the 39-year-old, but he’s largely been able to return to as much regular golf activity as he can over the past several months.

This past week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he popped his first top ten since the 2017 Tournament of Champions. Considering the way the year started – three straight missed cuts from November to January – that’s a fantastic turnaround. It remains to be seen if he can maintain that level of performance, but history shows that this should be a good test.

At Riviera, Walker finished tied for fourth in both 2011 and 2012, then put together two more top-20 finishes in 2013 and ’14.

If you go back to 2016, Walker’s last truly healthy season on TOUR, the stats are lined up well in his favor. That season, he ranked 15th in strokes gained: approach the green, and 31st in adjusted scoring. Last week at Pebble Beach, he ranked 7th in the field on approach, and 13th in strokes gained putting, with some of the smallest greens on the entire TOUR schedule.

It’s one thing for Walker’s return to be a feel-good story, and he could definitely be the Comeback Player of the Year, but that comes after the results. Based on what we saw this past week, Walker is an absolute STEAL in DFS at just $7,200, and in my opinion, he’s well worth whatever risk his health may still present. Plug him in with confidence.
