For the most part this week, we’ve been keeping salaries as low as humanly possible. There’s a very, very good reason for that, of course. At PGA National, we wanted to make sure we could roster at least one of the highest-salaried players in the field.

In a perfect world, I’d love to have defending champion Rickie Fowler on my squad, but I just don’t feel there’s any room for balance, and much like last week with DJ, we’d be putting all our eggs in one proverbial basket.

That being said, I don’t feel like we’re taking even a minor step back picking up defending Masters champion Sergio Garcia. At the relative “value” of just $10,500, we get a guy who’s still one of the best players in the world, and he brings a solid record to this week at the Honda Classic.

This might end up being one of Garcia’s last tune-ups for Augusta, as he and his wife are expecting their first child sometime in the next month. If it is, it should be perfect timing. Garcia has finished inside the top-15 three of the last four years at the Honda Classic. Twice, he finished inside the top-ten, including a runner-up finish in 2016.

Garcia is still one of the best, most reliable ball-strikers on TOUR. In 2017, he ranked eighth in greens in regulation, and ninth in adjusted scoring. If you’ve got the salary space, roll with Garcia and reap the rewards.
