South Africa’s Erik Van Rooyen makes his Indian Open debut this week. Seeing a course for the first time hasn’t stopped him from playing good golf as of late.

The 28-year-old is making waves in his first full European Tour season. He’s 6-for-7 in cuts made with the six leading up to this week. Van Rooyen has four top-20s and finished three behind Shubhankar Sharma to finish solo second place at the Joburg Open.

His 69.22 stroke average is No. 2 on the European Tour.

Perhaps we should have seen this coming. Van Rooyen won last year on the Challenge Tour and was a top-20 machine there, too.

His accuracy off the tee isn’t exactly what you’d desire playing at DLF, but he has the length to overpower the course if he’s not straight. He’s found a way to hit 80.6 percent of his greens in regulation.

If you’re looking for a sleeper to win, Van Rooyen’s a nice choice.
