If you weren’t glued to your TV during the later part of the Valspar Championship – eyes dried out from not blinking, sofa cushion perfectly grooved – then I don’t know what to tell you. Either you still really dislike Tiger (kind of understandable?), or you simply can’t be moved by some of the most dramatic moments in golf.

Since you’re here, reading a column about fantasy golf, I’m going to guess you didn’t fall into either of those categories. With that being the case, I probably don’t go too deep on this pick. But if you’re still not convinced, allow me to address your concerns.

More from Pro Golf Now

Tiger Woods knows Bay Hill inside and out. He’s won here eight times in his career. That’s more wins than Doral, more than Torrey Pines, more than Muirfield Village. The only place his record compares in terms of wins is Firestone, also with eight. But we may get there later this year.

I was a skeptic, sure. I figured I’d believe Tiger was “back” when I saw it. I held my judgment when he finished T23 at the Farmers Insurance Open. His missed cut at Riviera didn’t bother me, but then he bounced right back for a T-12 finish at the Honda Classic. Then, this past week at the Valspar Championship, it felt like Tiger was destined to be back in the winner’s circle sooner than anyone could have guessed.

Sure, there are leaks. Tiger couldn’t buy a birdie putt all day on Sunday, save for the 44-footer he made on 17, just to keep it close for one more hole. But his iron play was steady, and his short game was magic, circa 2000. One or two chips find the cup, and we’re looking at a winner.

If Tiger remains healthy, there’s no better place this side of Augusta for him to win. I’m rostering Tiger and absolutely loving the price.
