The Masters is just one week away, and we’re taking a look at some of the late betting favorites at Augusta National.

As a golf fan, this is the most wonderful time of the year. The long winter’s snow is melting, and the temperatures are finally rising. Then, if you close your eyes and breathe in deep, you might just smell the azaleas in bloom.

No matter where you are, you know this much: the Masters is in the air.

The hottest topic in golf right now is a very simple question. Who will bring home the green jacket and cement their place in golf history? One of the best ways to get an insider’s look (and possibly bring home a few extra dollars) is to follow the odds.

Our friends over at OddsShark.com have updated their money lines following this past week’s WGC-Dell Match Play. It won’t come as a big surprise, of course, that the biggest riser on this week’s list is Bubba Watson. The two-time Masters champion is now +1400 and tied for the fifth-shortest odds in the field.

Of the players who made the final four at the Dell Match Play, Justin Thomas (+1000) is still a heavy favorite despite struggling at the end of a long week. Alex Noren comes in next at +4000, with runner-up Kevin Kisner still coming in long at +10000.

Here’s the full list of top contenders for this year’s Masters.

  • Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods: +900
  • Justin Thomas: +1000
  • Watson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose: +1400
  • Jason Day, Phil Mickelson: +1800
  • Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler: +2000
  • Paul Casey: +2200
  • Sergio Garcia: +2500
  • Hideki Matsuyama, Tommy Fleetwood: +3300
  • Henrik Stenson: +3500

Breaking down the rest of the Masters field

If that list seems pretty top-heavy, you’re not wrong. Those players have combined for 231 PGA TOUR wins, and 34 major championships. Sure, the number is more than a little skewed (shocker) by Tiger returning to action, but that’s still a murderer’s row of today’s top TOUR talent.

Don’t be fooled by the top-heavy nature of this year’s Masters, though. Despite the fact that this is pacing to be the smallest field in 20 years, the quality from top to bottom is still pretty high.

Patrick Reed (+4000) has looked great over the past few weeks. Matt Kuchar (+4500) has struggled a bit early this season, but he’s got four top-tens at Augusta in the past six years to build on.

The international contingent should be well-represented, as well. Right now, five Internationals are tied at +5000, headlined by 2012 Masters champion Adam Scott, as well as Marc Leishman, Tyrrell Hatton and Thomas Pieters, all of whom have been in fine form. That’s not even to mention the likes of Rafa Cabrera Bello and 2011 winner Charl Schwartzel (both +8000) and wild card Kiradech Aphibarnrat (+10000), who finished tied for 15th in his 2017 Augusta debut.

Finally, the new generation of up-and-coming stars still have their shot at history. Patrick Cantlay (+6600) and Bryson DeChambeau (+7000) lead this category. If you ask me, though, the long money should go to none other than Tony Finau. At +8000 on the money line, the former contestant on Golf Channel’s “Big Break” series will look to make his own breaks on Augusta’s hallowed grounds.

With so many players on top of their game heading into the Masters, you could justify putting down a little bit of coin on just about any of these guys. As always, though, just remember to do it responsibly, and legally. This is the greatest tournament of the year, so keep it fun!

We’ll be back next week with one final last-minute look at the field. Stay tuned!
