RBC Heritage Power Rankings: Top 10 picks at Harbour Town
You’d think a South Carolina boy like Dustin Johnson would be a frequent RBC Heritage attendee.
Not the case.
It’s taken a new sponsorship with RBC to coax the world No.1 to Harbour Town for his first start since 2009. I would call that a win for everyone involved.
Johnson’s two starts as a young pro both resulted in missed cuts. He’s clearly miles ahead of where he was a decade ago, but perhaps there’s a reason DJ takes this tournament off.
Several holes can play long at Harbour Town if the wind’s right, but its reputation holds up for being a short test of ball position and proximity. You’re pressing your luck taking driver on more than a handful of tee shots, particularly for the longer hitters.
Overhanging trees come into play often, even spoiling the occasional shot from the fairway.
Johnson is 162nd on Tour in driving accuracy and second in rough proximity.
He’s got the skill to go against the grain and win this week, but winning this week will require Johnson to show some finesse.
