Brooks Koepka healthy, surging at Fort Worth Invitational
Brooks Koepka has battled through some low spots and injuries over recent months. Now that he’s back in top form, he’s surging to the top at the Fort Worth Invitational.
Brooks Koepka was on top of the world. Last June, he tied the record for the lowest score to par in a U.S. Open, winning his first major championship at Erin Hills. That victory pushed him inside the top ten in the Official World Golf Ranking, and kickstarted his run through the rest of the 2017 schedule.
Unfortunately, the start of 2018 hasn’t gone as well for the former Florida State standout. Reality set in as he endured a mysterious wrist injury that never quite kept him completely out of action, but clearly ruined his play on the course.
"“It’s like someone’s jabbing a knife in my wrist or hand,” Koepka said in Hawaii. “It’s not fun. Nobody can come up with an answer.”"
The “mystery injury” turned out to be a partially torn tendon in Koepka’s left wrist. After finishing dead last in the field of 34 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, he announced that he would be taking a medical leave that would last at least until the Masters, in an attempt to fully recover.

Unfortunately, he was forced to miss the trip to Augusta National as the recovery time simply wasn’t enough. Of course, as with so many other difficult decisions he’s made in his still-young career, this one appears to be working out for the best.
Now that he’s back in action, he’s pain-free and looking as good as ever. He finished T-42 at the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago, his first full tournament since January. A Sunday 63 at THE PLAYERS gave him his first top-25 since October’s WGC-HSBC Champions. Now, he heads into the weekend at Hogan’s Alley just a few shots behind leader Justin Rose.
With a very real shot at winning in just his third tournament back, it appears that Brooks Koepka is ready to once again make a move toward the top of the PGA TOUR standings. And that’s a good thing, because there’s nothing worse – for the game, the fans or the players themselves – than a career getting sidetracked by nagging injuries.

It’s clear that Koepka is still rounding into his top form, but with three of the year’s four majors, plus the FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup left on the schedule, I wouldn’t bet against him being a factor in all of those events.
