We all know Rory’s game is best suited for the aerial style parkland courses that have seen him win two PGA Championships and one U.S. Open.

We also know he’s said hi to the haters by skinning the cat a different way at the 2014 Open and as host of the Irish Open in 2016. This is now the fourth year the Rory Foundation has hosted the event.

McIlroy has had an up-and-down season with the highs being a win at Bay Hill, a pair of solo seconds on the Euro Tour (Dubai, BMW PGA) and a T5 at the Masters, albeit never in contention on Sunday.

The lows are an MC at the U.S. Open and the PLAYERS and a pool play exit at the WGC-Match Play.

In his most recent start, McIlroy finished T12 at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago. He leaped out to an opening 64 and was in the 60s each day to finish just six off the lead and three behind second.

McIlroy hit plenty of fairways and greens, but he didn’t feel quite locked in. I’m sure a lot of players would take his off weeks any day.

"“…it says that I’m probably number one tee to green, but it didn’t feel like it,” McIlroy said after the Travelers. “Yeah, obviously, I would have loved to have putted better. But I felt like all parts of my game just needed to be a little bit sharper.”"

McIlroy has proven he can be down, but not out. He roared from a shot back with three holes to play to win the 2016 Irish Open by three.

McIlroy has finished top three in four of his last five European Tour starts.
