British Open 2018: Betting odds for the 147th Open at Carnoustie

British Open Betting Odds Dustin Johnson

The top of the odds list, rather unsurprisingly, is littered with the top ten players in the world. There’s nothing really “wrong” with that, of course, but if you ask me, it tends to be just a little bit on the easy side. It’s safe, but it’s not really that much fun.

For reference, here are the current top ten golfers in the Official World Ranking, along with their betting odds for the 147th Open Championship:

  1. Dustin Johnson, 12:1
  2. Justin Thomas, 20:1
  3. Justin Rose, 16:1
  4. Brooks Koepka, 20:1
  5. Jon Rahm, 20:1
  6. Jordan Spieth, 18:1
  7. Rickie Fowler, 16:1
  8. Rory McIlroy, 16:1
  9. Jason Day, 25:1
  10. Tommy Fleetwood, 20:1

Don’t get me wrong. Each one of these players brings a resume to Carnoustie worthy of a Claret Jug. And Carnoustie is no pushover of a course, either. As former R&A Secretary Sir Michael Bonallack said, “when the wind is blowing, it is the toughest course in Britain. And when the wind is not blowing, it’s probably still the toughest.”

In other words, there could be a lot of luck in play this week. The DJ’s and Rahm’s in the field won’t be able to simply overpower the course, and course management will be the deciding factor.

These guys are the best in the world for a reason, but if you’re looking for a bit more wagering excitement, you may want to look elsewhere.
